Lectionary Theme: Birth of Our Saviour-Good News to all; End of Twenty five Days Lent
-
Micah 5:1-9 First Lesson
1. Now you are walled around with a wall; siege is laid against us; with a rod they strike the ruler of Israel upon the cheek.
2. But you, O Bethlehem of Ephrathah, who are one of the little clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to rule in Israel, whose origin is from of old, from ancient days.
3. Therefore he shall give them up until the time when she who is in labor has brought forth; then the rest of his kindred shall return to the people of Israel.
4. And he shall stand and feed his flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God. And they shall live secure, for now he shall be great to the ends of the earth,
5. and he shall be the one of peace. If the Assyrians come into our land and tread upon our soil, we will raise against them seven shepherds and eight rulers.
6. They shall rule the land of Assyria with the sword and the land of Nimrod with the drawn sword; they shall rescue us from the Assyrians if they come into our land or tread within our border.
7. Then the remnant of Jacob, surrounded by many peoples, shall be like dew from the Lord, like showers on the grass, which do not depend upon people or wait for any mortal.
8. And among the nations the remnant of Jacob, surrounded by many peoples, shall be like a lion among the animals of the forest, like a young lion among the flocks of sheep, which, when it goes through, treads down and tears in pieces, with no one to deliver.
9. Your hand shall be lifted up over your adversaries, and all your enemies shall be cut off.

Philippians 2:5-11 Second Lesson
5. Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus,
6. who, though he existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be grasped,
7. but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, assuming human likeness. And being found in appearance as a human,
8. he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death— even death on a cross.
9. Therefore God exalted him even more highly and gave him the name that is above every other name,
10. so that at the name given to Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11. and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Galatians 4:1-7 Epistle
1. My point is this: heirs, as long as they are minors, are no better than those who are enslaved, though they are the owners of all the property,
2. but they remain under guardians and trustees until the date set by the father.
3. So with us; while we were minors, we were enslaved to the elemental principles of the world.
4. But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,
5. in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as children.
6. And because you are children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”
7. So you are no longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir through God.

Luke 2:1-14 Gospel
1. In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.
2. This was the first registration and was taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria.
3. All went to their own towns to be registered.
4. Joseph also went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was descended from the house and family of David.
5. He went to be registered with Mary, to whom he was engaged and who was expecting a child.
6. While they were there, the time came for her to deliver her child.
7. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no place in the guest room.
8. Now in that same region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
10. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for see, I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people:
11. to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord.
12. This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger.”
13. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying,
14. “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors!”
